Sad news for motorists. While prices at the pump and auto insurance premiums are on the rise again, motorway companies have announced a further increase in page rates. Result? From February 1, 2023, taking the motorway will cost you on average 4.75% more expensive. On certain roads, prices are soaring even from 5.09%against only 2% increase last year.

Reasonable increases
This increase, the most dazzling of the last 10 years, arouses the anger of motorists. The main roads are becoming too expensive and will become reserved for the rich! They use inflation as an excuse and make their money on our backs. It is estimated that at least 20% page rates are unjustified, indignant Pierre Chasseray, spokesman for 40 million motorists, in the columns of the Parisian.
The worst has yet been seen. During September, professionals in the sector had mentioned price increases ranging from 7 8%. The Minister of Transport, Clément Beaune, then intervened to call for reasonable increases, without however giving more details.
For their part, motorway managers justify the increase by inflation, the energy crisis and the cost of work undertaken to modernize the French road network. The law provides that these companies have the right to pass on inflation to their prices within the limit of 70%. And that these same rates can be revised once a year.

Little boost
To appease motorists, Sanef, APRR and Vinci Autoroutes, which are the three main motorway management companies, have already planned to grant 40% off to television subscribers who make at least 10 round trips per month on the same route. This amount will be deducted directly from the drivers’ invoice.
In addition, the APRR and Sanef groups announced a reduction in 5% for 1 year for drivers of electric cars. Here again: you will have to subscribe to television to benefit from this financial boost. It’s a start. But not enough to satisfy Pierre Chasseray, for whom these gestures are only smoke screens intended to hide the rise.
