Thousands of demonstrators march in Tunis against Kas Saed

TUNIS (Reuters) – Thousands of Tunisians demonstrated against President Kas Saed on Sunday, demanding a return to democratic order and rejecting his replacement of the independent electoral commission with a commission he himself appointed.

Since seizing executive power last summer, Kas Saed has consolidated his grip on Tunisian politics.

He has already dissolved parliament and taken control of the judiciary by granting himself almost all powers last summer, indicating that he could rule by decree. Its opponents have denounced a coup d’etat.

Kas Saed has also launched the drafting of a new Constitution to replace the one established following the 2011 revolution, ensuring that all of his steps are essential to save Tunisia from the crisis.
