Thousands of euros lost – Internet fraudsters went online

A North Burgenland reported to the police on Tuesday. He suspected that he was the victim of an investment fraud. Because he had transferred several higher amounts of money due to an advertisement on an internet platform. The police are now urging caution.

Advertisements on an investment platform tempted the man to transfer money. The Northern Burgenland suspected a serious provider behind the offer based on the presentation of the advertisement. There was contact with those responsible by email as well as by phone, which encouraged the later victim to invest additionally.

In early May, the man transferred a high five-digit euro amount to a German bank account for the first time. Because losses were reported, a few days later he again transferred several thousand euros to the account to offset them.

Even when asked, the man had not been paid a promised return several times before. Instead, they wanted to encourage him to make further high investments and asked for further transfers. The total damage now amounts to a six-digit euro amount. It is unlikely that the man will see the money he has invested again.

Multiple cases of fraud
Recently, the reported cases of fraud are increasing again. Regardless of whether it is fake SMS, misleading WhatsApp messages or calls from criminals, the police urgently warn against such scams. “Money should never be transferred. Because there is a high probability that this will be irretrievably lost, ”they say.
