Thousands of Germans are still in Mallorca: now huge return campaign begins

Travel companies are working flat out to bring vacationers to their home countries in the midst of the Corona crisis. In Mallorca there are also thousands of Germans among the approximately 15,000 holidaymakers who are still on the island – for whom numerous empty planes are now flying to Palma for the return campaign.

All 15,000 German holidaymakers, who are currently in the 130 still open hotels in Mallorca, will leave the island within a week due to the coronavirus crisis.

This is in compliance with the instructions from the Balearic Government, the hotel associations said on Friday.

According to the Hotel Association Fehm, these tourists are in their rooms and are only allowed to visit the hotel restaurants. They are prohibited from leaving the houses.

On Friday alone, 35 additional German and British aircraft had flown tourists out of Mallorca. The jets usually arrive empty and fly away again, as tour operators said.

The German company Alltours has since brought all of its holidaymakers back from Mallorca to Germany. (it)
