Meta still has a lot of work to do around Threads to make its rival social network Twitter truly attractive and complete. Fortunately, many things are already underway.
It is Adam Mosseri, boss of Instagram, who partly reveals what is on the list of the developers of Threads.
Threads: a social network still in its infancy
If you were able to try out Threads yourself on iOS or Android by following our tutorial (or reading our first test), you normally know that the alternative to Twitter signed Instagram (Meta) is for the moment certainly… minimalist. But this initial launch (rushed to take advantage of the fall of Twitter?) should soon give way to updates boosted with new features.
Asked about the social network by users, Adam Mosseri replied that were ” on the list many of the requested additions. Here is the list, which we obviously imagine to be partial as there is still room for improvement.
What features are coming soon?
First of all, it will soon be possible to edit your messages after having posted them. A feature, remember, paying at Twitter with the Blue subscription (but not at Mastodon). Hashtags will soon become clickable. A shame that this is not already the case in 2023 when a new social network of this type is launched. Adding a section displaying current trends is also “ on the list “.
For professionals, it will be possible in the future to alternate between several accounts. Remember that Threads must use your Instagram account to log in (and that can be a big problem…). Another strongly requested addition that should arrive in the future: the possibility of seeing in your feed only the people followed, and not a mixture with suggested accounts.
Next, research, which is extremely basic today, will be improved. In particular, it will be possible to find threads (!). Regarding the search elsewhere, it will soon be possible to search for GIFs to display in its messages in the composer. Other features present in the competition or even Instagram, the possibility of pinning a thread to its profile or even tagging users in photos and videos.
Finally, Adam Mosseri confirmed that the direct translation of messages in the application was on the way, as well as a full-fledged web version of the social network. In short, you will have understood, Threads still has a lot to do to catch up with Twitter or Mastodon, while no date has been revealed for these various improvements.
