Threads and Instagram: Linked accounts are good… but they’re also a big problem

Available for a few hours, Threads has already been adopted by more than 10 million users.

Meta’s “Twitter Killer” is very much linked to Instagram… even a little too much, from what we can see.

Threads and Instagram a bit too linked?

Twitter made in Meta has been available for download on Android and iOS for a few hours. Launched in more than a hundred countries, Threads (that’s its name) is however not yet available in Europe, the time for Meta to comply with European regulations on the collection and use of personal data.

While Threads already has over 10 million users, the app works closely with another Meta app: Instagram. As a result, the configuration is both very simple and very fast. But some followers may have discovered that deleting a Threads account also involves deleting the Instagram account linked to it.

To delete your Threads profile, only one solution: delete Instagram

” You can deactivate your Threads profile at any time, but your Threads profile can only be deleted by deleting your Instagram account “, can we read in the help center of Meta. According to the American giant, a Threads profile is therefore an integral part of an Instagram account.

Available for only a few hours, Threads will obviously evolve over the days, with new features, but also the resolution (we imagine) of various bugs and other small operating problems in order to fully justify its ambition of “Twitter Killer” .

There is no doubt that Meta will also (re) look into the close relationship between Threads and Instagram in order to avoid the slightest negative buzz in the face of a rival (Twitter) which has been losing ground in recent months, following the various escapades of its CEO Elon Musk.
