Since yesterday, new Threads users are very annoyed to find that it is impossible for them to delete their account without deleting their Instagram account at the same time. Indeed, the two applications being linked, the account in question is the same. Instagram boss Adam Mosseri says a solution is coming soon.
You may be one of the tens of millions of users who flocked to Threads when it launched yesterday. Indeed, if the whole is still a bit messy, many are already convinced by this alternative to Twitter signed Meta. This does not mean that the platform is not free from defects, quite the contrary. Indeed, many features that could be considered essential are still missing.
The most decried is undoubtedly the absence of a news feed reserved for the people we follow. Others also mention a message that is long overdue, or even hashtags which, surprisingly, are completely useless at the present time. But the most problematic is probably the one you haven’t thought of yet. Suffice to say that we advise you not to delete your account right now.

Be careful, do not delete your Threads account if you care about your Instagram account
And for good reason: you risk losing your Instagram account in the process. If you’ve ever created a Threads profile for yourself, you’ve probably noticed that the app asked you to link your Instagram account. Afterwards, the new social network was presented as “propelled” through the Meta platform.
Adam Mosseri, CEO of Instagram, confirmed this in a post on Threads, stating that “Threads is operated by Instagram, so it’s one account for now, but we’re working on a way to delete your Threads account separately. » Otherwise, the only solution for the moment is to deactivate your account, in order to remove all the content published on the platform.
Here are the steps to follow :
- Open the app Threads
- Go to the tab Profileat the bottom right of your screen
- Click on the menu of Settingsat the top right of your screen
- Meet in Account > Disable Profile
- Push the button Disable Threads Profile
