Threatened, insulted – hate campaign: Doctor was driven to her death

For months, the doctor Lisa-Maria Kellermayr (36) in Upper Austria was threatened with murder and insulted by opponents of vaccination. Now she is dead.

Since November 2021, the general practitioner Lisa-Maria Kellermayr (36) from Seewalchen am Attersee has lived in fear and terror. The reason: she appeared publicly for the corona vaccination, bringing radical opponents of vaccination against her. Death threats, verbal abuse and insults followed. Kellermayr did not feel sufficiently protected by the police, made the threats public and hired a private security service, but still had to close her practice at the end of June. In an interview with the “Krone” she said at the time: “I can’t take any risks when it comes to the safety of my patients and employees.” And even then, Kellermayr had a premonition of what could still lie ahead. “The people who are threatening us think they have the right to kill me. And that they act as good people because I am evil personified. Because in her eyes I killed thousands of people because I vaccinated them,” she said when asked whether the threats would come to an end if vaccinations were no longer compulsory. Hate campaign in recent days She was right. In the past few days, the radical anti-vaccination mob has mobilized again against the doctor. There was rushing and threatening in relevant telegram groups. On Twitter, a man from Germany, against whom the authorities were already investigating the threats against Kellermayr, unabashedly rushed. All of this was apparently too much for Lisa-Maria Kellermayr. On Friday around 7.30 a.m., an assistant found the doctor lifeless in the surgery. She had taken her own life, the public prosecutor’s office in Wels confirmed to the “Krone”. A farewell letter was also found in the ordination. Since the cause of death is clear, according to the public prosecutor’s office, there will be no autopsy. Mourners in front of the Ministry, commemoration event on Monday On Friday afternoon, mourners gathered in front of the Ministry of Health in Vienna to commemorate the deceased doctor. A commemoration event under the motto “Yes we care” is also planned at 8 p.m. on Stephansplatz, initiated by Daniel Landau.Van der Bellen: “Let’s stop this intimidation” to protect against diseases,” said Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen via Twitter, and had campaigned “for vaccinations and a careful handling of the pandemic”. Some people “were upset by it,” Van der Bellen said. “Let’s stop this intimidation and scaring. Hate and intolerance have no place in our Austria,” said the Federal President, who expressed his sympathy to family and friends of Kellermayr. “You are not alone. We are all with you.” “Deeply affected” was Vienna’s Mayor Michael Ludwig. “Her death shows us that we must not give room to hatred and intolerance in our society,” he said on Twitter. His thoughts are with the survivors of the doctor. Health Minister Johannes Rauch had previously expressed his dismay at the death of the doctor. “Death threats against you and your employees were brutal reality,” said the minister via Twitter. Medical Association “deeply shocked” In a broadcast, the Austrian Medical Association was “deeply shocked” by the death of the doctor. This tragic event shows in a frightening way what consequences hate can have on the Internet, said the President of the Medical Association, Johannes Steinhart, in a first reaction. The current tragic case shows once again the need for support for those working in the healthcare sector, both in terms of direct protection and offers of supervision and crisis management in the event of threats. Steinhart also expressed his heartfelt sympathy to the relatives and friends on behalf of the medical profession . They want to support the commemoration event in Vienna on Monday evening. Viennese doctors would be informed and asked to take part in the event to set a “signal for solidarity and against violence and hatred”.
