three alternative suppliers pinged for bad practices

The Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) has criticized the suppliers Mint nergie, Elmy (GreenYellow) and Chez Switch (Sagiterre) for not having passed on to their customers the advantageous rates from which they benefited. They represent only a tiny share of the total electricity market in France.

The Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) has criticized the suppliers Mint nergie, Elmy (GreenYellow) and Chez Switch (Sagiterre) for not having passed on to end customers the advantageous rates from which they benefited.

Clearly, in the heart of winter, they took advantage of the government’s request for an extension of electricity produced by EDF at a reduced price within the framework of Regulated Access to Historical Nuclear Electricity (Arenh).

Couldn’t justify that they had returned the money

These suppliers represent an extreme minority in the sector since of the 4.9 billion euros transferred to alternative suppliers for an additional 20 TWH, 34 million, or 0.5% of the total, did not benefit consumers, explains the president of the CRE, Emmanuelle Wargon. These three suppliers failed to justify that they had returned this money to consumers, according to comments reported by AFP.

Asked by Le Figaro, Elmy indicates that no unfavorable conclusion (him) has to date been transmitted by the CRE. If the elements transmitted are not sufficient, elmy remains entirely at the disposal of the CRE in order to be able to provide the necessary clarifications and show that the company has acted within the rules and that there has been an impact of the system on our customers,” Elmy continues.

A logic of name and shame

Several suppliers such as Ohm Energie and Mint Energie offered ultra attractive prices between April and early August 2022 before exploding their prices by 80%. They were even singled out by the energy mediator.

These various abuses directly influence on consumers’ bills since the higher the demand for alternatives, the more EDF buys on the markets, which also increases the TRV customer’s bill . In 2022, the CRE carried out 11 reminders and 4 investigations, on suppliers representing only 0.5% of the retail electricity market.
