Three are electric – five class winners at the German Car Awards

A jury of 20 renowned motor journalists selected the five class winners for the “German Car of the Year 2022” award. They have been selected from all of the major new launches over the past twelve months. Three of the five finalists are all-electric cars.

Peugeot 308, Kia EV6, Audi e-tron GT, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Porsche 911 GT3 took the lead. The overall winner, Germany’s Car of the Year, will now be chosen from these five winners.

The Peugeot 308 prevailed among compact cars with a base price of up to 25,000 euros, while the Kia EV6 was ahead in the premium models with a base price of up to 50,000 euros. In the luxury segment with a cost price of over 50,000 euros, the Audi e-tron GT won. In the category of vehicles with alternative drives (New Energy) the Hyundai Ioniq 5 won, and in the sporty performance class the winner is the Porsche 911 GT3.

These five class winners are also nominated for the final, which is held during test drives. The result will be known at the end of November. The jury consists of 20 motor journalists active in German-speaking countries. She is supported by the consulting firm AItastic and the companies Bridgestone, KST Motorenversuch and ZF Friedrichshafen.

The German Car Award is being held for the fourth time. The overall winners of the past few years were Jaguar I-Pace (2019), Porsche Taycan (2020) and Honda e. Class awards were presented for the first time in 2021. The Honda e prevailed against VW Golf (Compact), VW ID.3 (New Energy), Polestar 2 (Luxury) and BMW Alpina B3 (Performance).
