Three injured – sports boat collided on the Danube with a passenger ship

A passenger ship and pleasure craft collided on the Danube in Linz on Saturday night. The boat then drifted around on the river, unable to manoeuvre, and three people were injured.

The captain of the passenger ship reported to the police that he had lost sight of the pleasure craft after the collision at 10.40 p.m. He therefore assumed that this had sunk together with the crew. The result was a large-scale operation. Taken in tow The wrecked sports boat was spotted by the police shortly thereafter, unlit and unable to manoeuvre, drifting at the level of the entrance to Linz’s winter port. The fire brigade took it in tow and brought it to the landing stage in the winter port. There, the three injured passengers – a 48-year-old woman from Gmunden and two from Linz (41 and 54) were treated first by the rescue team. Alcohol in the bloodThe 54-year-old boatman stated that he did not see the passenger ship’s light designation, after which his boat collided with the ship. After the collision, both hulls scraped past each other on the starboard side. The collision was so severe that the boat was severely damaged and everyone on board was injured. An alcohol test carried out on the 54-year-old showed a value of 0.56 per mille.
