Three injured – while water skiing, the boat exploded on the Traunsee

Dramatic scenes took place on Thursday afternoon at the Traunsee near Altmünster. A boat exploded while water skiing. A 24-year-old and two children saved themselves, like the ship’s captain, by jumping into the water. The 24-year-old and the two girls (8, 11) are injured.

The accident happened in the jetty area shortly before 5 p.m. The boat was immediately in full fire after a deflagration. The guests – a 24-year-old and two girls (8,11) – were caught in the flames. Like the skipper, they fled into the water and rescued themselves on the bank. With the exception of the captain, they were all brought to the hospital with injuries of indefinite degree.

Two firefighters treated
The burning boat drifted out into the lake. The fire brigade struggled to extinguish the boat, first “catching” it and then fighting the flames with foam. Two Florianijünger had to be brought to the hospital with suspected smoke gas poisoning, but came back after outpatient treatment.

Oil barriers on the lake
The boat was rescued from the lake, oil barriers prevent leaked petrol from spreading and this is still sucked off. “To be on the safe side, the oil barriers remain at the lake for a day or two,” the fire department said. The cause of the explosion is still unclear, but a defect is obvious.
