In early 2024, Samsung is reportedly planning to launch three high-end smartphones in the Galaxy S24 series, the same number of models as the previous generation. However, some new things are to be expected.
It’s been many years now that Samsung has been accustomed to releasing three high-end smartphones at the start of the year, and the 2024 batch shouldn’t come as a big surprise. The next flagships of the Korean giant are already talking about them, since SamMobile and GalaxyClub have already discovered the names of all the models.
According to them, the Galaxy S24 series will be named “Muse”, and three devices are planned so far. The Galaxy S24 Ultra is codenamed “Muse3”, which suggests that the Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus are called “Muse1” and “Muse2” internally. As a reminder, the Galaxy S20 series was codenamed “Hubble”. The Galaxy S21 series was codenamed “Unbound”, while the Galaxy S22 series was codenamed “Rainbow”. Finally, the code name for the Galaxy S23 series was “Diamond”.
The Galaxy S24 series is still made up of three smartphones
Several previous reports had hinted that Samsung may be discontinuing its “Plus” model, especially due to weaker sales than other smartphones in the series. However, given the codenames discovered, everything suggests that a Plus model will also appear in a few months from now.
In addition to the number of smartphones in the S24 series, our colleagues also had the opportunity to confirm an important change that is expected on the photo part of the Galaxy S24 Ultra. While some reports claimed that Samsung would remove one of the cameras, the Korean manufacturer will ultimately settle for replacing one sensor.
Indeed, rather than offering a 3X telephoto lens and a 10X periscope, in addition to the main and ultra-wide-angle cameras, Samsung will change the focal lengths offered. The telephoto lens will now allow 5X optical zoom rather than 3Xwhich should make the smartphone even more versatile.
Samsung has just updated its Galaxy S23 to add a new feature: a lossless 2X zoom provided by the main camera. Given the arrival of a 2X zoom, the 3X optical zoom then becomes less interesting, since it is offered by a much less efficient sensor than the main camera. Switching to a 5X sensor should therefore resolve this redundancy.
