After another hot day, a few strong thunderstorms rolled in on Tuesday afternoon and evening. Late in the evening, the strongest moved from Schauffhausen across the Zurich Unterland in the direction of Lake Constance. It caused over 10,000 lightning strikes.
In the middle of the afternoon, the first strong thunderstorm with hail moved from Ticino to Graubünden. Hail was observed, for example, in the Andeer/GR area, and the storm weakened on the way to the Landwasser valley. Later, small and medium-sized thunderstorms developed in many places in the Alps, which brought heavy rain and hail in some areas.
In the evening also in the lowlands
In the evening there were some strong thunderstorms in the lowlands. For example, there was a small thunderstorm in the Bern area. It continued north-east and intensified between the Emmental and Lake Sempach. Shortly before Zurich it collapsed.
Heavy thunderstorm in the Schaffhausen area
Later in the evening, a strong thunderstorm with hail reached the Schaffhausen area. This thunderstorm then moved via Zurich-Unterland to Thurgau.
This thunderstorm was very lightning-intensive, more than 10,000 lightning strikes were registered.

Thunderstorms brought gusts of wind locally, for example in the Engadin. A strong gust of wind of 114 km/h was registered on Salastrains. In Schauffhausen there was a gust of wind at 103 km/h.
