Thunderstorms reported throughout the last week of June

After a lot of rain in June, more thunderstorms are to be expected by the end of the working week.

It will probably not be possible to sit outside this week because of the weather.

«Nachem Räägne, chunnts go ships,
After ships, there shallow,
In Switzerland, in Switzerland, in Switzerland.”

After the rain is before the rain. What the song “Nachem Räägne” by the Swiss comedian Peach Weber addresses should probably come true in Switzerland this week. After it rained a lot in June, more thunderstorms are to be expected until Friday.

Rain and hail on Monday evening

The reason for the thunderstorm front is increasingly humid air, which is flowing into Switzerland and thus increasing the risk of showers and thunderstorms. More thunderstorms are expected on Monday.

Strong thunderstorms are possible again. According to Meteo-News, the thunderstorms should move quickly. This means that it can rain heavily for a short time, but the total amount of rain will be limited overall. The southern Valais, Ticino and Graubünden will be largely spared until the evening.

Also on Monday there will be more thunderstorms, some of them desert, especially in central and eastern Switzerland. Shortly before 5 p.m. on Monday, the first line of thunderstorms formed, moving from the west across Bern to the east – and bringing rain and hail with it.

During the night of Tuesday, the thunderstorms are expected to move quickly to the east. But more thunderstorms are expected again on Tuesday. According to Meteo-News, it should remain thundery all day in the south, while it will be changeable in the north. The weather is not expected to calm down again until Wednesday night.

The next thunderstorms are expected on Thursday in the mountains, as well as on Friday. Overall there will be thunderstorms again throughout the working week.

Heavy thunderstorms in northwestern Switzerland

During the night on Monday it had already stormed in north-western Switzerland. Shortly after midnight, a line of thunderstorms reached the canton of Jura and brought with it hail, gusts of wind up to 100 km/h and heavy rain.

In Fahy in the canton of Jura, the record from 1981 was even surpassed: 20.5 millimeters of precipitation fell here within ten minutes.

The cell then moved on towards Basel, Aargau and Schaffhausen. In some areas there was coarse-grained hail with diameters of three to five centimetres.
