Feminism is more visible than ever. Social networks create space for positioning – entrepreneur and podcaster Tijen Onaran fills this space with her voice for diversity. With her company “Global Digital Women” she networks women worldwide in order to increase visibility and inclusiveness. As part of their live podcast tour “How to Hack”, we from BRIGITTE.de spoke to Tijen.

Tijen Onaran wants to change something – with her expertise in women and digital professions, she is a pioneer when it comes to equality. She recognizes the social grievances and makes them visible through her work. In an interview with BRIGITTE.de, she explains what true empowerment means for her and why it is not difficult for her to represent a strong opinion.

Courage to give an opinion

Tijen Onaran is the wrong candidate for the reserve bank: She has always wanted to participate, make decisions and initiate changes. It is not difficult for her to express her opinion: “There is always someone else’s perception of others. When I express my opinion, then I have the opportunity to influence this perception. We live in a time in which one does not actually feel at all can allow to have no demeanor, “she reveals. Positioning on socio-political issues requires courage – courage to make a mistake, courage to fail. The step of saying what one thinks in public, on the other hand, is associated with dangers: “Visibility always means vulnerability. But especially when it comes to diversity and gender equality, visibility is needed. And if so few do that, then I have to do.”

“Feminist” is a compliment

The terms “emanze” and “feminist” are increasingly associated with negative things in public debates. “I think a lot of people think that this is an insult. They don’t understand that I’m incredibly excited about it. I’ve worked hard to get perceived as a feminist.” When it comes to the keyword “feminism”, many have a certain type of woman in mind – but this has changed massively after Tijen: “Feminism has a new perspective today. It is possible to enjoy lifestyle things and at the same time to advocate socio-political issues . I am the best example of this! ”

Does lipstick shrink the brain?

“There are still people who believe that if you wear makeup, lipstick and high heels, your brain shrinks. But I and many women out there have been very impressive over the last few years that it is not. ” Tijen has always had a great interest in fashion and lifestyle. Part of the problem is that companies with a range of products that typically have female connotations are less respected. Female women are still pigeonholed – but compared to the past, a lot has changed today.

This is real empowerment

We read it everywhere: In any marketing campaign, empowerment is the key word. For Tijen, however, true empowerment looks like this: “In the past, women were more influenced by their environment. Today there are more and more women who dare to take a bold step forward and say: ‘If I have to change in order to relate to my environment fit, then the environment doesn’t suit me. ‘ This is real empowerment. ” True self-empowerment therefore means not being influenced by the perspective of others. That is the greatest task in life and also a construction site: not to follow the opinion of others. Tijen will not stop fighting for diversity, equality and inclusivity, even if she wishes her job were redundant.
