TikTok competes on search, Google reacts


Faced with the competition represented by TikTok on online search, Google intends to react. During the Google I/O, the search engine presented “Perspectives”, a search tab that intends to display videos, images or writings taken from social networks. The trend this year was towards artificial intelligence, including in relation to the search engine, but that’s not all. Google announced ” Outlook a kind of search filter focused on forum or social media posts.

In the coming weeks, a new search filter will appear in Google: “Outlook”, which will join the news, images, videos, books, etc. Google states on its blog that “you will exclusively see videos, images and written messages, short or long, that people have shared on chat rooms, Q&A sites and social media platforms.»

Today, these various publications are already referenced by Google. One thinks in particular of the question that you asked Google for a computer problem that you cannot solve, a problem that an Internet user also had years ago and who posted the solution on a forum. TikTok videos and some tweets are also displayed in search results, as are videos from YouTube, Dailymotion, etc. Google also takes the opportunity to indicate that these different contents will be more prominent in the results of its search engine. The latter intends to emphasize the originality of the content, with the aim that they answer the specific question posed by this or that Internet user.

But there, the integration should be better and especially more adapted. The names of the content creators relayed, their profile picture, but also information on the popularity of their content will be displayed.

Competition from TikTok and others on online search

If Google is the search engine as such with the most market share in the world, by far, it is not the only one to respond to this use. There is also YouTube, with its search bar which allows you to find videos that are published there, and which accounts for a lot of searches. But fortunately for Google, YouTube is also Google.

The other “TRUE»competitor and which is seriously starting to point the tip of its nose – mainly among the youngest – it’s TikTok. Thanks to its system of hashtags and the operation oftrends(or trends), the ByteDance social network has also become a real search engine. News, best restaurants in the area, cooking recipes with leftover vegetables… You can find everything in the videos published, so much so that it becomes a real alternative to Google. This is why the firm probably had to react.
