The TikTok social network, which is one of the 19 services affected by the DSAa new European text, has unveiled its compliance measures.
On Monday, TikTok took the time to communicate about the changes made to the platform to the 134 million monthly users in Europe. These adjustments and new features are part of the Digital Services Act (DSA), the new legislation of the European Union which should make it possible to better protect Internet users and mobile users, both with regard to content and with regard to the very operation of major digital services. The text officially entered into force on Friday, August 25.
A special report for illegal content on TikTok
We know that the DSA obliges the digital giants to operate a stricter and more rapid moderation of illegal content, so that the impact of the latter (whether violent, child pornography, whether they highlight drugs, weapons fire or other) is now minimal on European citizens.
And to precisely report this illegal content more easily, TikTok has added something new to its “Report” button, which can be found on the application but also on the site. How to access it?
- On the browser version of the application, you must click on the “…” that you find at the top right of a video, then press “Report”, and then choose the option “Report illegal content”.
- On the mobile application, you must press and hold a video, comment or LIVE and then press the “Report” button, then choose “Report illegal content”.
The service also complies with the obligation to deactivate the recommendation of the contents
This is one of the flagship measures of the DSA: it is now possible to deactivate the personalization of content recommendations on all the major digital platforms. On TikTok, this directly impacts the “For you” feed, comparable to the traditional news feed of other social networks. So what will happen if you disable personalization on the Chinese app?
” When performing a non-personalized search, users will see popular content from their region and in their preferred language “, explains TikTok, which extends this principle to the feeds “For you” and LIVE. The “Following” and “Friends” feeds will continue to display the creators you follow on the platform, but this time in chronological order, and no longer according to the user’s profile.
Among the other measures put in place by TikTok, let’s finally dwell on the labeling of commercial content. ” We now offer a wider range of labels that individuals and businesses can apply to their content “, says the subsidiary of the ByteDance group. We explain to you:
- For content paid for by an advertiser, the creator may affix the words ” publicity/sponsored “.
- For a commercial partnership between a person and a brand, there is now the mention ” paid partnership “.
- And for organic content of a person or company used to promote its own brand, product or service, it will be necessary to affix the mention ” promotional content “.
Note that since July, European users aged 13 to 17 no longer see personalized ads based on their activities on TikTok or elsewhere.
