TikTok has just rolled out a new feature on its social network that looks a lot like Instagram. Indeed, it is now possible to view how much time has been spent on the application, exactly as with its direct competitor. In fact, both platforms have faced accusations about addiction and danger to the mental health of young people.
There was a time, it almost became a joke to see how much Instagram copied TikTok. The latest example dates back to just a few days ago, when Meta’s social network increased the duration of Reels to 90 seconds. But of course, these glances thrown at the neighbor are actually the prerogative of all social networks since their creation. So it was only a matter of time before TikTok did the same.
In recent times, the Chinese application has also taken inspiration from its rivals. We had thus seen the appearance of a copy and paste of Memojis from Apple, or the arrival of paid subscriptions similar to those of Twitch. This time, it’s Instagram’s turn to now share one of its features with TikTok, since it’s the display of time spent on the application.

Users can therefore now find a new dashboard that displays several data concerning the time spent on the application, as well as the hours when they watch the most videos. In addition, TikTok now allows you to add a user time limit to avoid spending hours on the social network without realizing it.

It is interesting to note that this initiative comes in a stormy context, similar to what Instagram has experienced in the past. TikTok is also the subject of accusations concerning the risks of addictions and a negative impact on the mental health of the youngest users. While Instagram had encouraged teenagers to take regular breaks, the Chinese social network also seems to be heading in this direction.
