It sounds totally absurd, but this trend recently went through the social network TikTok: The pill is said to work wonders when mixed with shampoo. A doctor warns of the consequences.

Who wants to be beautiful must suffer? If some TikTok users have their way, all you really have to do is mix the birth control pill into your shampoo – and whoosh, you get long, healthy hair. Sounds weird? It is!

Expert warns: Do not abuse drugs

The pill in the shampoo, what is it supposed to do? TikTok user "uwubrat" wants the tip from her mother, as a hair care miracle. She writes: "My mom says when she was younger she would have crushed her birth control pills and put the powder in her shampoo to make her hair grow better. So I decided to give that one a try. I'm laughing."

Some users accept the tip with enthusiasm. After all, there are tons of hormones in the pill, so it's good for your hair, isn't it? Total nonsense! The dermatologist Yael Adler also told RTL. The hormones are not packed in the pill in such a way that they reach the hair follicle. In addition, the contact time with the shampoo is far too short.

The expert warns against misusing drugs for other purposes. Adler does not believe that the hormones get into the body via the shampoo at all, but of course the pill has not been tested for such uses. If the hormones do have an effect, they could trigger hormone fluctuations, for example. Another user recognizes a completely different problem in which she points out possible consequences for the groundwater.

So: stay away from the pill shampoo!
