One in four TikTok users are under 19. And yet, the Chinese social network wants to attract adults. How ? By limiting certain features according to the age of the users. The platform will thus set up various options aimed at restricting the viewing of certain content by those under 18.
TikTok will limit certain features depending on the age of users. It will be necessary, for example, to be at least 16 years old to be able to use private messages and to be over 18 years old to be “live” on the social network. Before, it was 16 years. And then, some users will be able to activate an option so that their live stream is only watched by adult members.
Protect minors
However, there is no question of making it a platform filled with pornography or nudity. This remains prohibited on the social network. TikTok explains that this new rule could be of interest to users who want to talk about a “difficult life experience” or who “would feel more comfortable knowing that the conversation is restricted to adults”.
It is therefore for TikTok to try to protect minors more. If TikTok particularly targets live videos, it is because it is more complicated to moderate them. In fact, no strict age control will take place… Any minor who registers can lie and state that he is over 18 years old.
