Tim Lobinger has blood cancer and is terminally ill. Now it’s time to tick off life goals. One of them is witnessing the high point of his son Lex-Tiger’s career, which he has now successfully achieved.

Ex-pole vaulter Tim Lobinger, 50, has been suffering from leukemia since 2017. The former professional athlete does not have much longer to live. “There will be no more healing for me. My cancer is too aggressive,” the father of three recently told “Bild”. Nevertheless, he fights – especially for his children Okkert, 6, Lex-Tyger, 23, and daughter Fee, 27.

Lobinger is now jubilant about the career goal of his second oldest, which he was fortunately still able to witness: professional soccer player Lex-Tyger scored his first second division goal for 1. FC Kaiserslautern on October 8, 2022.

Whether in the forest or in the gym: in 2019, several joint training sessions followed. And now it has finally worked! In the game between 1. FC Kaiserslautern and Hamburger SV on October 8th in the Volksparkstadion, the professional kicker equalized in the 82nd minute and saved his team from losing.

Applause from all corners. Father Tim is infinitely proud, as he shows with a jubilant photo of his son and the words “done” on Instagram. Lobinger was also able to live to see his 50th birthday, his youngest Okkert starting school in September and the wedding of his daughter Fee in June of this year. For him, these are “milestones” worth fighting for.

Lobinger has been fighting cancer since 2017

Lobinger’s life with the disease began on March 3, 2017. On his father’s birthday of all days, the doctors told him that he was suffering from a “particularly aggressive form” of leukemia, as the former athletics coach of the RB Leipzig football club did in May 2020 on Instagram made public. Several chemotherapies followed, a stem cell transplant and a brief liver failure in the summer of 2018. Lobinger was initially considered cancer-free in 2019. According to his own statements, he received radiation again in 2020 and fell ill again at the end of 2021. Tim never lost his will to live, fights to the end and tries to keep a smile.
