Tim Mälzer: Celebrity chef welcomes government aid after lockdown

The restaurants will close again on Monday. Tim Mälzer is also affected with his "bullerei". This is how he wants to survive the lockdown.

Just four weeks ago, celebrity chef Tim Mälzer (49, "Heimat") reopened his legendary restaurant "Bullerei" in Hamburg after half a year of renovation. On Monday he has to close it again due to the new lockdown. In an interview with RTL, he explains how things will go on for him. He will deliver food as well as take away and is hoping that the aid promised by the state will be implemented. "Another lockdown is catastrophic at first," says Mälzer, but he sees hope.

He welcomes the announced help for the catering industry – up to 75 percent of the loss in sales should be covered: "The aid package should enable us to get through the next four weeks to some extent – if it goes through as promised." However, it is important that this is paid out quickly and without legal hurdles. In general, Mälzer was combative: "The gastronomy will not be killed."
