Tim Wakefield is dead. The former US professional baseball player died at the age of 57 as a result of a brain tumor.

Before Wakefield joined the Boston Red Sox, he played for the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1992 to 1993, but was less successful there. His big breakthrough later came with the Boston Red Sox, where he was an active pitcher from 1995 to 2011. They won the Major League Baseball (MLB) championship in 2004 and 2007.
He leaves behind a wife and two children
He played a total of 19 major league seasons, including 17 for the Red Sox. In total, he won 200 games, including 186 for Boston. In the spring of 2012, Wakefield announced his retirement at the age of 44, but remained an active member of the team.
