New owner for Airport Rostock-Laage

“Center for research and entrepreneurial activities into space” – that is part of the new owner of the airport near Rostock. With the sale, the time for annual subsidies ends for the district and municipalities.

Rostock-Laage Airport, which was previously operated by municipalities, is to be sold to the Berlin Zeitfracht Group. Zeitfracht board member Wolfram Simon-Schröter welcomed the fact that the boards of the previous owners approved the sale. The airport has so far been owned by the city of Rostock, the district of Rostock and the municipality of Laage. Their municipal representatives had approved the sale in the past few days.

As a logistics-oriented group of companies, Zeitfracht wants to develop the airport further in this direction, explained Simon-Schröter. Among other things, the construction of a logistics center is planned. In addition, Zeitfracht wants to “expand the location into a center for research and entrepreneurial activities out into space”. The company did not provide any information about the purchase price. According to information from the NDR, it is 200,000 euros. A vaccination center is currently located in parts of the airport.

Rostock-Laage is the largest airport in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The previous owners had repeatedly had to support the airport with smaller seven-digit amounts over the past few years. The number of passengers handled was around 300,000 before the corona pandemic and has since fallen to around 20,000. The airport is also used by the German Armed Forces. The Zeitfracht Group also took over the ailing fashion store chain Adler last September.
