Tina Turner and Mick Jagger share a friendship that is characterized by “respect and affection”. Jagger is also a “rascal”.

Tina Turner (81) and the Rolling Stones (since 1962) have a long history in common. It was Mick Jagger (77) and Co. who took the singer on tour in the 1960s, back then as part of Ike & Tina Turner (1960-1976), and helped her on her way to success grabbed. But after Turner separated from her violent husband Ike (1931-2007) in 1976 and later divorced, the now 81-year-old was unable to build on her successes as a solo artist. Back then there were people who “worked against me,” said Turner in an interview with “Welt am Sonntag”, recalling the difficult time.

But there were also colleagues who always tried to stand by her side, as well as the Rolling Stones or singer Rod Stewart (76) or David Bowie (1947-2016). Mick Jagger in particular has “always treated her like a friend, a partner,” says Turner. He was “but at the same time a rascal” and you never knew what he would do next. Still, it was all fun in the “good sense,” Turner reveals.

“Respect and affection”

The singer and the band have a deep-rooted friendship to this day: “The Rolling Stones were always there for me, they sent me flowers when I was sick, and they used to invite me to open some of their concerts – at a time when I tried to make it as a solo artist for the first time. We have known each other for a long time. There was always respect and affection between us, “enthuses the singer.
