Alerted to the purchasing power in England, they did their shopping in Poland. This is the challenge that two young British YouTubers have taken on, in the face of inflation which has reached a record 6.7% according to the Bank of England. The bill is less hefty, travel included, if you check out 1,600 km from London.

In the video, Josh and Archie, with tousled blond hair, first go to a Lidl supermarket near London. This brand is the only one to be present in England and Poland. “Individual cakes, cookies, peanut butter. So we bought absolutely everything on the list established by the government, these products whose price is monitored to know its increase. It cost us 164 pounds and 47 pence,” says one of the content creators. Or a basket estimated at 189.05 euros.

77 euros difference between the English and Polish store

The duo then gets their hands on the cheapest plane ticket, the equivalent of 15 euros round trip with Ryanair, hold luggage included, to bring the food. They land, take the bus to Lidl, the Polish version, to buy the 135 products on the government list.

“It looks a lot like the one in England. Pork chops, nuggets… After buying exactly the same basket, it’s time to check our basket. And 67 pounds and 72 pence cheaper in Poland”, exclaims the duo on the shelves of the Polish supermarket.

The bill is marked by a difference of 77 euros between an English and Polish store. One night in a hotel later, the two boys return to England. They triumphantly declare that they have gained around 11 pounds, or 12 euros, on the total operation.
