Sports watch manufacturer Coros is rolling out a major update for its watches adding numerous features.
In the field of sports watches, Garmin is clearly positioned as the market leader, with more than 70% market share according to a study carried out in France by Campus. But the American brand has been facing competition for several years from younger and more dynamic manufacturers. This is particularly the case for the Coros brand, which offers sports watches at particularly aggressive prices, notably the Coros Pace 3 or Coros Apex 2 Pro.
Not content with offering viable alternatives to Garmin watches, Coros also announced at the end of last week a major update for most of its connected watches, with the April 2024 update. Enough to add a large number of functionalities to the different models.
The first of these new features concerns the mirroring of the watch screen on that of the smartphone. Concretely, this will allow users to display, on their phone, the data displayed in real time on their Coros connected watch. The idea could be, for cyclists, to attach their smartphone to the handlebars, in order to consult the data from the watch more easily than on their wrist. The same goes for sports where it may seem simpler to consult your training data at a fixed point, such as for a treadmill, a rowing machine or weight machines. Furthermore, this mirroring will also allow users to consult, on their smartphone screen, their route on a large map, in addition to the mapping integrated into their watch.
A new Virtual Pacer function
In addition to this mirroring function, the April 2024 Coros update also adds a particularly anticipated Virtual Pacer function. Similar to what Garmin can offer with PacePro, this function aims to allow you to add a pace or distance objective and will tell you, throughout your race or training whether you are ahead, in delay or nails.
The update also aims to significantly improve GPS tracking for one of Garmin’s strong points: climbing. Other new features include a redesign of the activity screen, with larger icons and fonts, as well as new training options for climbing, including training programs or sessions that can be programmed in advance.
An update deployed on most models in the range
These new features are available from today in beta on the Coros Pace 3, Coros Apex 2, Coros Apex 2 Pro and Vertix 2. The beta version for the Coros Pace 2, Apex Pro and Vertix will arrive on the 16th. may. Finally, the update will be available to everyone by May 30.
