Ile-de-France residents can take advantage of assistance with the purchase of electric bicycles introduced by the Ile-de-France region. To obtain it, however, it will be necessary to provide a large quantity of documents. On this subject, there is a crucial point to remember, under penalty of being denied this financial boost.
In France, the State and local authorities offer several purchase aids to French people who wish to acquire a scooter or an electric bicycle. Regarding the government’s bicycle bonus, it has been extended throughout 2023.
Besides, the eligibility thresholds have been raised to cover 50% of the poorest households. Thus, since January 1, 2023, families with a reference tax income per unit of less than €14,089 can benefit from this aid. These boosts range between €150 and €1,000 depending on the type of bike (bike with or without pedal assistance, cycle adapted for transporting people with disabilities, etc.).
In addition and depending on your place of residence, it is possible to also benefit from local aid, in addition to the envelope proposed by the State. This is for example the case in Ile-de-France, which has set up a very attractive purchase bonus for pedelecs (electrically assisted bicycles), cargo bicycles, folding or adapted bicycles.
Here, the amount of aid varies depending on the type of bike. In the case of a VAE, the region will pay 50% of the maximum purchase price including tax of the bike, within the limit of aid of €500. What drastically lower the bill if we add the Bike bonus of the government.

List of documents to provide to obtain the purchase bonus in Ile-de-France
Be careful, however, to obtain the precious sesame, you will have to mount a white paw and put together a substantial file. In effect, the region requires many administrative documents. You will therefore be asked for the following supporting documents:
- a copy of the bike’s conformity approval certificate issued by the retailer (for pedelecs only)
- a copy of proof of address less than three months old
- a copy of your identity document
- a copy of proof of emancipation for emancipated minors
- bank details in your name
- information on the bicycle’s identification number and the identification certificate for models purchased from January 1, 2021
- proof of obtaining or refusing local financial aid for those who live in a city or an intermunicipal authority that offers similar purchase aid
Pay attention to the language on your invoice!
Finally, the region will also ask you to provide a copy of the invoice for the purchase of the bicycle and any accessories. Regarding this specific point, there is however an important detail to remember: the invoice in question must be in euros and above all, written in French.
Casually, this small detail can lead to refusal to accept the offer. In fact, if you bought your VAE from a foreign brand, be sure to demand a copy of your invoice fully translated into the language of Molière, under penalty of having to make a new request… and therefore losing precious time (and money).
