Some comic storylines don’t seem to translate successfully into films. We tried it here for the second time and at least paid attention to interesting details.

In the history of the “X-Men” comics, the “Dark Phoenix” saga was a crucial point that would inevitably end up in the cinema sooner or later. They tried it for the first time in 2006 with “X-Men: The Last Stand” – and failed. After the first two “X-Men” films were well received by audiences, the ending of the trilogy failed most viewers.
The next retelling of the great Jean Gray story followed in 2019 with “X-Men: Dark Phoenix”. Behind the camera: None other than Simon Kinberg, who wrote the script for “The Last Resistance” and now even took over the direction. This time his “Dark Phoenix” adaptation was even more unpopular and once again brought an ignominious end to an “X-Men” film series. But the film also has positive aspects!

In addition to numerous Easter eggs for “X-Men” fans, the film also contains a clever detail that requires a little prior knowledge. Near the end of the film, Charles Xavier meets with Magneto. Charles is wearing a Rolex Milgauss on his wrist. Why is this so interesting?
This watch is also worn by scientists at the CERN research facility because it can withstand even strong magnetic fields. Whatever Magneto does with his powers, Charles’ watch will definitely keep working!
The strongest mutant of all time
Charles Xavier sends his X-Men on a dangerous mission into space. During a solar flare, Jean Gray aka Dark Phoenix absorbs the radiation. She discovers her telekinesis abilities and must learn to deal with her new power. She finds out that Charles Xavier lied to her when she was a little girl. Confused and angry about this, she turns away from the X-Men, of whom no one knows that Jean is quickly becoming the strongest of all mutants.
“X-Men: Dark Phoenix” is the directorial debut of Simon Kinberg, who brought together a brilliant star cast for the finale. Charles Xavier will again be played by James McAvoy (“Split”), alongside “Game of Thrones” star Sophie Turner in her leading role as Jean Gray aka Dark Phoenix. Jennifer Lawrence (“Hunger Games”) as Mystique and Michael Fassbender (“The Killer”) as Magneto can also be seen again.
A weak ending for a strong cast
The film only achieved 22 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, which is the worst rating for a film in the “X-Men” series. Otherwise, the criticism was rather negative, although the last part of the reboot would have had great potential with a star cast. At the Golden Raspberry 2020 he was nominated twice for “Worst New Film or Sequel” and Worst Supporting Actress.
