Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun: Opinion on volume 6 of Pika’s manga

Directly following the adventures of the previous volume, this volume 6 of Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun invites us to find the guardian of the clock who is determined to make all the students of the school age. To prevent all this from going wrong, Hanako takes the initiative to make an alliance with the guardian of the present. But other surprises await our heroes.

As a reminder, Aidalro’s manga is published in France by Pika Edition, while in Japan it’s Square Enix who takes care of it. In addition to an already existing anime adaptation, a musical also saw the light of day last year.

This new volume of Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun, starts on a rather jovial tone and gives pride of place to humor. Nene is once again taken to task by the evil that reigns in the school, which will quickly tip the story into a more dramatic tone.

An important revelation will occur and concern Nene Yashiro. Information that will not be without consequences for the future and which will constantly leave a dramatic layer over the chapters of the volume. This contrasts quite clearly with the first pages but the transition is done well, and judiciously.

However, in terms of lore and characters we will not learn much more here. Nevertheless, the chapters can be appreciated and the rhythm does not really suffer. Even if we have known more gripping volumes. But the point of revelation has its effect and gives weight to the whole. Not counting the characters we’ve come to know and love, the relationships between the heroes still work.

Volume 5 of Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun suggests drama for the future. Due to the main twist obviously, but also by the irruption of a new mysterious character and spectral entities. The atmosphere a bit heavy that we can feel over the chapters is also transcribed with the character of Hanako.

The latter is shown as more solitary than usual, he gives the impression of being caught up in reflections, undoubtedly in connection with the information learned concerning Nene Yashiro. By this attitude, as a reader we feel a certain confusion in the face of the events depicted and to come. This contributes to the particular feeling that emerges from this volume 6.

Finally, as since the beginning of the plot, Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun once again succeeds in juggling between genres, whether in the adventures or in the drawing. As subtle as it may be, there are many visible variations between boards featuring a light mood and those that are more dramatic. Without being as blatant as it may have been in earlier volumes, there is definitely a perceptible change.

Should we fall for volume 6 of Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun?

Toilet-bound hanako-kun t6 loneliness

Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun continues its skillful mix of genres and continues to reveal a little more about the mysteries surrounding the school. Always sparingly to prolong the adventure, but without necessarily giving the impression of forcing the thing. If at the level of the characters it is not the most interesting volume, the revelation surrounding Nene Yashiro brings crucial data for the sequel.
