Tom Cruise, first civilian to walk in space? We know more about the after Top Gun Maverick. Universal has revealed some details about one of Tom Cruise’s upcoming movies, which will take viewers into space for real!
After the box of Top Gun Maverick, Tom Cruise will “take the audience into space“! Number 1 at the box office in France in 2022, and in many countries around the world, Top Gun 2, piloted by Tom Cruise, is to date the biggest success of the actor’s entire career.
Inevitably, the next Tom Cruise films are going to be highly watched and anticipated. Mission Impossible 7 and 8 are on the way (to be released on July 12, 2023 and June 26, 2024, respectively), and more projects are in the air. Among them is this space movie announced for several years. Universal Pictures, which produces this hyper-ambitious feature film, gave some news recently on the BBC, through its president, Donna Langley.
Here is what the studio is planning with this film which should cost around 200 million dollars. The idea is to shoot the first fictional film in space, with the first civilian, in this case Tom Cruise, who would walk in space.
Top Gun Maverick: how does Tom Cruise see the future of cinema?
“Tom Cruise is going to take us to space. It will take the world into space. That’s our plan,” Donna Langley told the BBC. “We have a big project in development with Tom [Cruise], in which he would be seen walking through space. He would take a rocket to a space station and he would, hopefully, be the first civilian to walk outside a space station.“
Little is known about the plot yet. According to Donna Langlay, the film will set her action “principally” on Earth, then the hero will have to go to space. It will be about “a character who will find himself in the situation of being the only person who can save planet Earth“.
The film will be directed by Doug Liman, director notably of Edge of Tomorrow, and Barry Seal: American Traffic, both worn by Tom Cruise. No details on when the film will start shooting, but the latest news was that it could start in 2023.
