Tom Hanks: He would clean toilets for the moon mission

Oscar winner and Hollywood star Tom Hanks, 67, wouldn’t be too ashamed to take part in a mission to the moon. He revealed in an interview with The Telegraph, that he would even clean the toilets on board a spacecraft. He would also be willing to do other work: “I would like to be the one who serves food on the moon,” laughs Hanks.

“If there was room, I would be the one cleaning up, making jokes, telling stories and entertaining everyone. I’m her man. I would probably sign up in a heartbeat,” continues the actor, who starred in the drama film “Apollo 13” from the year In 1995, he portrayed NASA astronaut James Lovell, 95. In his eyes, it would be a good idea if he took on all the work: “I’ll clean the toilets. I’ll serve the food. I’ll fold the laundry. I’ll stow the equipment. That way the others have time for other things.”

Tom Hanks is currently co-author and narrator of a project dedicated to lunar exploration. The immersive exhibition “The Moonwalkers” opens in London on December 6th. The stories of NASA’s lunar missions are presented there. As part of his latest venture, Hanks will also meet with the crew of Artemis 2, which will set off to the moon next November as the first manned mission since 1972.

“Four people on Artemis will see the Earth rise over the moon, and one of them will be of a gender other than male. I think that says everything about the progress of humanity,” Hanks said. “Apollo was men, men, men, men, men.” But you have to send the absolute best people: “And you know what? There will be a woman there.”

The four-person crew consists of commander Reid Wiseman, 47, pilot Victor J. Glover, 47, mission specialist Jeremy Hansen, 47, and mission specialist Christina Hammock Koch, 44. Hammock Koch is the woman with the longest stay in space to date. The Belgian singer Milow, 42, has already dedicated the song “Christina’s Eyes” to her.
