Many well-known Hollywood stars have already won an Oscar and a Golden Raspberry. A story of the double prize winners.

On the eve of the Oscars, the Golden Awards traditionally take place in Los Angeles Raspberries were awarded for the supposedly worst acting and artistic achievements of the year. The 44th Razzie Awards will take place on March 9th this year – one day before this year’s Oscar ceremony.

Typically, the winners of both awards shows differ significantly from each other. But over the 40-year history of the Razzie Awards, there have always been overlaps. Well-known Oscar winners received the US film industry’s unpopular prize.

The following stars won both an Oscar and the Golden Raspberry – also known as the Anti-Oscar.

Tom Hanks

In 2023, the Razzies caught one of the most popular actors ever: Tom Hanks (67), who was awarded an Oscar for “Best Actor” for “Forrest Gump” and “Philadelphia”, received two Golden Raspberries for his performance in 2023 Playing in the musician biopic “Elvis”.

Hanks was named Worst Supporting Actor and Worst Screen Couple. What’s particularly piquant is that he was also the only nominee in the latter category. Hanks received the raspberry along with his “latex-covered face.” Another example of why the Oscars are considered the most controversial film awards of all.

Sandra Bullock

In the long history of the Razzies, no one has ever made such a cool appearance as Sandra Bullock (59) in 2010. The actress appeared in person at the award ceremony and accepted her raspberry for her performance in the comedy “Crazy About Steve”. This personal appearance alone is extremely rare for the Razzies.

But just one day later, Bullock won the Academy Award for Best Actress at the 82nd Academy Awards. She was recognized for her performance in the moving football drama “Blind Side” – and with her double appearance and double whammy at the Oscars and Razzies, she secured a place in Hollywood history books for all time.

Leonardo DiCaprio

One of the biggest film stars in the world has also “won” a Razzie: Leonardo DiCaprio (49) received the shameful award for “Worst Actor” in 1999. He was nominated – similar to Tom Hanks in 2023 – together with himself for “The Man in the Iron Mask”. As is well known, DiCaprio embodies both King Louis XIV of France (1638-1715) and his imprisoned twin brother Philippe in the historical film.

In 2016, the mime received the only Oscar of his long and successful career for “The Revenant”.

Mel Gibson

Former mega-star Mel Gibson (68) has also won Academy Awards and Golden Raspberries – and can look back on an extremely checkered Razzie history. After he received two Oscars in 1996 for “Braveheart” – for “Best Director” and “Best Film” – there was the “good Razzie” in 2017.

Gibson received the Razzie Redeemer Award for directing the war film Hacksaw Ridge. This prize is intended to honor an exceptionally successful artistic achievement that is seen as compensation for previous missteps. But a year later, Mel Gibson received the Golden Raspberry Award for “Worst Supporting Actor” for the comedy “Daddy’s Home 2.”

Ben Affleck

Ben Affleck (51) is also a two-time Oscar winner. Together with his childhood friend Matt Damon (53), he received the screenplay Oscar in 1998 for “Good Will Hunting”, and triumphed again in 2013 as producer for “Argo”, which was named “Best Film”.

But with the Razzies, Affleck had to give up over the course of his career. In 2017 he received the mock prize together with Henry Cavill (40). The two actors were “awarded” as “Worst Screen Couple” for their performance in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.”

At the 24th Golden Raspberry Awards in 2004, Affleck also received the award for “Worst Leading Actor” – for three productions in which he appeared the previous year: “Daredevil”, “Love with Risk – Gigli” and ” Paycheck – The Billing”.

In 2014, Ben Affleck also received the first ever Razzie Redeemer Award. The good raspberries were given for the hit films “Argo” and “Gone Girl”.

Halle Berry

Oscar winner Halle Berry (57), who was awarded “Best Actress” in 2002 for her performance in “Monster’s Ball”, appeared in person – like Sandra Bullock a few years later – at the Golden Raspberry Awards in 2005 to accept her shameful award for “Catwoman”. to receive. With her Oscar statue in her hand (!) Berry “thanked” the film studio Warner Bros., among others, for thisfor putting her in a “horrible film.”

Kevin Costner, Jared Leto and Marlon Brando: These stars also won Oscars and Golden Raspberries

Many other well-known Oscar winners have also received a Golden Raspberry in the past. For example, Jared Leto (52), who won an Academy Award for “Dallas Buyers Club”. There were two raids in 2022 and 2023 for his game in “House of Gucci” and “Morbius”.

Kevin Costner, Marlon Brando, Charlton Heston, Faye Dunaway, Al Pacino and Kim Basinger have also been punished with a raspberry – along with a few other Oscar winners from the past who are no longer so well known today.

However, in 2021, screen legend Glenn Close (76) caused probably the strangest story in the combined history of Oscars and Razzies: she was up for both an Oscar and a raspberry for her performance in the Netflix film “Hillbilly Elegy”. Nominated in the Best/Worst Supporting Actress category. Close didn’t win either award, but this simultaneous double nomination leaves question marks.
