As voice actor Tom Kane set "Star Wars" characters like Yoda and C-3PO to music. A stroke now robbed him of the ability to speak.

US dubbing actor Tom Kane (58) has already lent his voice to iconic characters in countless "Star Wars" productions – from C-3PO ("Star Wars: Empire at War") to Yoda ("Star Wars: The Clone Wars") to Admiral Ackbar in the two films "The Awakening of Power" and "The Last Jedi". But with this sad news, it seems difficult to imagine whether Kane will ever be able to do his job again. As his daughter announced in a Facebook post, Kane suffered a stroke around two months ago that affected his speech center in the right hemisphere.

"At the moment he can neither verbally communicate nor read or write," explains his daughter Sam in the post. The good news: Otherwise no mental abilities are affected and her father "largely himself. As many of you know about strokes, it may be that he will regain these abilities", Kane's family hopes. However, they also want to tell the fans that it is quite possible that he will no longer be able to pursue his profession: "His neurologist warned us that he might never be able to work as a voice actor again."

The family also published current photos of Tom Kane, which show him and his loved ones around Christmas 2020 and prove that he apparently did not suffer any secondary motor damage or paralysis from the stroke. "My father stays in a good mood and his extreme stubbornness helps him to show the first improvements in speaking. He absolutely agrees that I should share this with you and will see everything you post."
