Record donation collector Tom Moore has been infected with the corona virus. His daughter announced this via Twitter.

The British war veteran and fundraiser "Captain Tom" Moore (100) has tested positive for the corona virus. Her father was taken to hospital with pneumonia and received a positive corona test last week, said Moore's daughter in a tweet. "He was home to this day but needed extra help with breathing," she wrote. Moore is not in the intensive care unit, reports his daughter. Moore did not receive a vaccination against Covid-19, the BBC reported, citing a spokeswoman for the 100-year-old. The reason for this was the medication he was given to treat his pneumonia.

Moore raised almost 150 million euros for the NHS state health service during the corona pandemic. Before his 100th birthday, he promised to do 100 laps in his garden with his walker. Originally, he only wanted to raise around 1,000 euros for a good cause. Since that action, Moore has been a superstar in the UK. On his birthday he received 125,000 cards, and two Royal Air Force aircraft even flew over his house to greet him. In July 2020 he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II (94).

Many wishes for wellbeing

Many stars and politicians have already sent recovery wishes to the Corona hero. Prime Minister Boris Johnson (56) tweeted: "My thoughts are with Tom Moore's family. You have inspired our nation and we wish you all a speedy recovery." London Mayor Sadiq Khan (50) wrote on twitter: "Thank you to our brilliant National Health Service for looking after Tom Moore. I hope to make a speedy recovery and to see 'Captain Tom' back home with his family soon." British actress Amanda Holden (49) wishes the veteran is also making a speedy recovery and is hoping "to have some tea with you soon when it's safe".
