Who does not remember the Saturday trilogy on M6 and the unforgettable series Smallville who made the heyday of the saga from 2001 to 2011? For more than 10 years, viewers around the world have followed Clark Kent’s adventures from his teenage years to his heyday as Superman. Everything happened there, the learning of the hero’s powers, his romantic relationships including his meeting with the famous Lois Lane, but also his family life on the small Kent farm.
It’s in the podcast Talk City that we learn that the actor Tom Welling had to follow a specific diet in order to meet the wishes of the production as to the demands on his physique. He spoke freely about the “mental pressure” that he had felt all these years to the point of no return. One summer, he made the decision to no longer bend to the dictates of beauty that were imposed on him: “ There was a summer when I made it a point to do what I wanted, eat what I wanted”he reveals in the podcast.

The actor continues his explanation at the microphone of Michael Rosenbaum, alias Lex Luthor in Smallville: “At the same time, I was in the gym every day with my buddy, who is a huge weightlifter, so I was ingesting an unreasonable amount of calories, while lifting weights, and I just bulked up” he says. A situation that the production did not appreciate at all that is why they asked the actor to have a discussion with him.
“It wasn’t gut fat. I was just round” explains Tom Welling, an overweight that he quickly lost when he resumed the rhythm of filming since he no longer worked in the same way. He concludes this episode with a little humorous tip:“There were no shirtless scenes for a few weeks” he jokes before his sidekick Michael Rosenbaum kindly pokes fun at the situation.
