Almost two years ago, Crystal Dynamics formalized the development of a new video game tomb Raider, with a more adult heroine and probably without too many links with the latest trilogy. The studio said at the time that you had to be patient, but since then a lot has happened.
This future tomb Raider was talked about again last April, Crystal Dynamics announcing that development was just beginning, using theUnreal Engine 5 ofEpic Games. But a month later, thunderclap, Square-Enix announced that it was selling several of its studios and franchises, including Crystal Dynamics and tomb Raiderat Embrace Group. Quite a change for the developer, but nowhe found a renowned partner to ensure the publishing and distribution of his game: Amazon Games. In a statement and on social media, Crystal Dynamics declares:
We are thrilled to announce that Crystal Dynamics has partnered with Amazon Games for the next major entry in the Tomb Raider series, which will continue the saga of Lara Croft in a cross-platform narrative single-player adventure. Amazon Games will support and publish the game worldwide!
The developer gives in passing some information about this future gameobviously remaining very evasive:
It includes all the elements that made Tomb Raider one of gaming’s most revered franchises, putting players in control of the confident, multi-dimensional heroine Lara Croft in an environment that rewards exploration and creative pursuit, with challenging puzzles to solve, and a wide variety of enemies to face and defeat.
Scott Amos, director of Crystal Dynamicspraises his relationship with Amazon Gameswho shares “the same creative vision and values of Lara Croft than his studio. A collaboration that should reassure fans about the future of the franchiseeven if it will still be necessary to wait a moment before discovering this next tomb Raider.
