Tonight on Netflix: a series full of hope and good feeling!

It speaks of normality outside of norms, of differences within the same humanity, and it is definitely worth binge-watching: we named “Atypical”, the unusual, the emotional, the important .

Sam has autism spectrum disorder. But at the age of 18, he now wants to experience love and independence.

The young man then embarks on a quest, both funny and moving, to discover who he really is – a quest that will affect the rest of his family, each member having to question themselves and struggle with this question : What does it really mean to be normal?

An initiatory story of an “atypical” young man, the series is also not like the others. With its extremely endearing characters, its fair treatment of autism and its light humor despite the seriousness of its subject, the show talks about disability and touches you with simplicity, without pathos and without clichés.

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by AlloCiné spectators, suffice to say that Atypical has won over a devoted audience who may have identified with its story or the “normality” of its story – far from the glitter of teen show idealized. Drama is about life, real life, with its complications and emotional moments, all beating in unison.

First creation by Robia Rashid, previously screenwriter on The Goldbergs and How I Met Your Mother, the showrunner here tackles a large-scale, more personal project, for which she notably consulted the Research and Processing Center of Autism Center at UCLA to represent autism authentically.

Atypical is ultimately a series that feels good, never moralizing, always touching, fun and warm, which will make you laugh, cry and smile… and cry some more – after all, it is one of the 7 best series available on Netflix which make you shed tears according to the spectators!

The show, however, remains a real balm for the heart carried by a whole host of remarkable actors, including the revelation Keir Gilchrist (It Follows), and the excellent Jennifer Jason Leigh (Fargo), Brigette Lundy-Paine (Bill & Ted Face The Music) and Michael Rapaport (True Romance) – to name a few.

And if you add to that careful production and superb music, you are dealing with a gem of the small screen that is absolutely worth a try – with a special mention for its unique, meaningful theme song produced by the animation studio for autistic young people Exceptional Minds Please.

And if that’s not enough, here are even more reasons to watch the series right here.
