“The beginnings of the story might suggest that we are tending towards science fiction, but this kind of scientific discovery is probably not that far from reality”notes screenwriter Leslie Dixon, who wrote, among others, the stories of Madame Doubtfire and Freaky Friday. “I am convinced that right now, researchers in laboratories are trying to develop products to develop intelligence, improve memory, cognitive functions and reflexes.”
“I wanted the story to be completely credible, to approach it as something real”completes director Neil Burger, to whom we owe the first part of the Divergent saga. “And I also wanted to get inside Eddie’s head, show how he perceives the world when he’s under the influence of drugs, how he processes information and how he feels about being so intelligent. I had ideas for unusual visual techniques to show one’s perception of what surrounds one.”
