Tonight on TV: a feel good nugget with… a fakir in a cupboard!

Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. This evening: the adaptation of a literary success with Dhanush and Bérénice Bejo.

Taken from the bestseller The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir Who Got Stuck in an Ikea Wardrobe by Romain Puértolas, published in 2013, The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir is temporarily in the hands of comic book author and Franco-Iranian director Marjane Satrapi, before falling to Quebec director Ken Scott, to whom we owe the Starbucks hit comedy.

This marvelous epic follows the journey of fakir Ajatashatru, who arrived in France by a mischievous twist of fate, before being transported to the four corners of Europe as he tries to find the Parisian woman he fell in love with.

The main character is interpreted by the Indian Dhanush, a real star in his country, whose presence is made possible thanks to a Franco-Indian co-production. At his side, we find the French Bérénice Bejo and Gérard Jugnot, the Italian Stefano Cassetti, the American Erin Moriarty or the Somalian Barkhad Abdi.

Between Steven Spielberg-style adventure comedy, Bollywood romance and universal fable inspired by literary classics like Candid and The OdysseyThe Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir is a real feel good movie, which tackles with poetry and lightness the question of immigration, refugees and prejudices.

The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir by Ken Scott, Luc Bossi with V Dhanush, Bérénice Bejo, Erin Moriarty…
