Tonight on TV: Anatomy of a Fall won the 2023 Palme d’Or, but this film would have deserved to be on the list

Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. Tonight: Italian Nanni Moretti at his best.

If you don’t know the Italian Nanni Moretti, then his latest feature film, Towards a Bright Future, is a perfect introduction to his world. Released in theaters last year, this bittersweet and melancholy comedy passed through the Cannes Festival (without collecting any prize, scandal!) is a little delight which sees the filmmaker, winner of the Palme d’Or in 2021 for The Son’s Room, reconnecting with its semi-autobiographical vein.

Towards a bright future, it’s the story of Giovanni, a renowned Italian filmmaker played by Moretti himself, who is preparing to shoot his new film. But between his relationship in crisis, his French producer on the verge of bankruptcy and his daughter who abandons him, everything seems to be working against him! Still on a tightrope, Giovanni will have to rethink his way of doing things if he wants to lead everyone towards a bright future.

With Towards a Radiant Future, Nanni Moretti reveals to spectators his personal vision of cinema and politics, and it is delicious. For example, you won’t soon forget his character’s hilarious interview with Netflix executives!

“With this film, I wanted to make different tones exist in the same space, which are those of comedy, of suffering”declared Nanni Moretti at the microphone of AlloCiné last year. “Also making a realistic style coexist with a style that is not. While intertwining different stories from films that I make and plan to make. And while adding elements from my life.”

Love of cinema, taste for nostalgia, passion for popular Italian songs… Towards a bright future is 100% Moretti, and it’s a little miracle of elegance. Want to spend a radiant evening in the company of a great filmmaker in great shape?

Tonight on Canal+ at 11:16 p.m.
