Tonight on TV: did you like Wonka at the movies? This great Tim Burton will prolong your pleasure

Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. Tonight: Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka!

Currently, you can see Timothée Chalamet in theaters as young Willy Wonka, the extraordinary inventor, magician and chocolatier from the magical world of Charlie and the chocolate factory by Roald Dahl. So why not continue by discovering this iconic adult character?

Adult Willy Wonka is of course Johnny Depp in Tim Burton’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory released in theaters in 2005 (but it could also have been Dwayne Johnson!). A Wonka who organizes an extraordinary competition: the one who discovers one of the five golden tickets that he has hidden in the chocolate bars he makes will win a lifetime of sweets. Charlie, a child from a poor family, decides to try his luck…

A true feast for the eyes, this Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is top-notch family entertainment. Original, funny, moving, it is quite simply one of the most successful works of the visionary Tim Burton, an enchanting film to be enjoyed without moderation!

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which attracted more than 4.3 million spectators in French cinemas, marks one of the many collaborations of Tim Burton and Johnny Depp. The two men notably collaborated on Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, Sleepy Hollow and Alice in Wonderland.

Tim Burton is particularly enthusiastic when he talks about Roald Dahl’s novel. “One of the interesting aspects of the book is that it is so particular, so free, that it still leaves room for everyone’s interpretation”he explains. “It leaves a door open for your own imagination. And imagination was, I think, one of Roald Dahl’s strengths as a storyteller.”

For Johnny Depp, one of the best aspects of the novel Charlie and the chocolate factory live in “the unexpected twists and turns specific to Roald Dahl’s writing. You think the story is going in one direction and suddenly it goes in another, offering another alternative, another route, which makes you think. More generally, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is an excellent moral tale. But it is also very magical and fun.”

What if, like Johnny Depp, you were caught up in the magic and fun of this ideal film for the holiday season?
