Tonight on TV: do you find Marvel films too mainstream? So, you might like this one.

Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. Tonight: the second part of the saga dedicated to the most brazen Marvel hero!

If Tim Miller, the director of the first part, was to direct the sequel again, he ended up giving it up due to artistic differences with Ryan Reynolds. It’s finally David Leitch, former stuntman and former understudy of Brad Pitt, as well as director of John Wick, Atomic Blonde or more recently Bullet Train, who gets started!

After losing Vanessa, the love of his life, sassy and foul-mouthed mutant mercenary Wade Wilson – aka Deadpool – must assemble a team to protect a young mutant from the brutal time-traveling cyborg, Cable.

At the same time, he must also rethink friendship and what heroism means while learning the most important lesson of all: being part of a family again.

Marvel’s shameless anti-hero, who likes to break the fourth wall, puts on his costume again… and it’s a success! This second part, featuring the now cult character of Ryan Reynoldsupon its release in 2018, surpassed its predecessor, earning more than $785 million worldwide.

Deadpool 2 thus became the ninth highest-grossing film of the year, the highest-grossing film in the X-Men series, and the highest-grossing R-rated film at the time.

When it comes to reviews, the positive wins out, with some considering this sequel superior to the first film and praising its humor, performances, story, and blood-filled, cleverly choreographed action sequences – by a David Leitch connoisseur please!

Deadpool 2it’s also a duel at the top: Deadpool against Cable, Ryan Reynolds against Josh Brolin – and yes, it is the interpreter of Thanos who returns to the MCU for another villain role.

A role that could well have been played by Brad Pitt who had gone so far as to meet David Leitch to discuss the role before a scheduling conflict gets in the way.

Always as funny, violent, vulgar, daring and offbeat, this Marvel adventure like no other should delight fans of the first part by offering again and again an ironic variation, full of self-deprecation, mischief and impropriety, of its universe legendary cinematography.

Deadpool 2 by David Leitch with Ryan Reynolds, Josh Brolin, Morena Baccarin…
