Anne Walberg is a celebrity in the world of perfume. She creates fragrances and sells her incredible talent to companies of all kinds. She lives like a diva, selfish, with a strong temperament. This pitch is that of the very endearing comedy Les Parfums, led by Emmanuelle Devos and Gregory Montel, one of the agents of the acclaimed Dix pour Cent series. Released in theaters in 2020, this film is funny, tender, subtle, delicate, deep… Such a treat that we have to put you in the scent!

The director Grégory Magne had the idea of writing and directing The perfumes when he was, quite simply, hooked by the particular smell of a perfume… “The reflex is to look for who can wear it. So I find myself, for a few moments, observing the people around me, through this very particular prism”he says. “And I begin to imagine what the daily life of a person with a more developed sense of smell than the average could be like. How this faculty could modify their relationship with others, with what consequences on their social and emotional life, on their character .”

“Putting smells into images”

“All of this seemed conducive to bringing out a singular character and immediately posed a challenge of scenario, direction, production: putting the smells into images”adds Gregory Magne.

Even if he didn’t want to make a scholarly film about noses or perfumes, Gregory Magne nevertheless surrounded himself with specialists during filming. “We had to be realistic and precise in the terminology as well as in the way of playing it”, notes the filmmaker. “Once the film was written, I had several people read it who provided me with details.”

Want a bright and elegant comedy with two actors in tune? So have a nose: The perfumes is the perfect film to start the week off right!
