Tonight on TV: Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham are banging, who stays down?

Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. Tonight: a spin-off of “Fast & Furious”.

After similar careers in the world of sport (wrestling for one and diving for the other), Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham respectively launch themselves into the cinema, in the register of action. Their film careers finally intersect in 2013 thanks to Fast & Furious 6, in which the British comedian is introduced at the end as the new antagonist.

However, it was not until Fast & Furious 7 that their respective characters – federal agent Luke Hobbs and mercenary Deckard Shaw – clashed on screen in a fierce battle.

A successful face-to-face; the bulk of their respective careers in France (4,637,718 admissions) as in the world (1.516 billion dollars in receipts), and which calls for other collaborations. In episode 8, where they work together and offer the best scenes, then in the spin-off Hobbs & Shaw, released in 2019.

Four years after their first real meeting at the cinema, Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham finally have their film just for them. This time, their characters are forced to join forces to face a new threat: a genetically modified anarchist (in the guise of Idris Elba), who has got his hands on a weapon of mass destruction.

With stunts of the impossible in the style of the parent saga, precise chases and moments of action defused by bursts of pure comedy, Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw offers a balance reminiscent of the good action cinema of the 1990s. Something to delight fans.
