Tonight on TV: more than 2.6 million spectators responded to Alexandre Astier’s call

Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. Tonight: Alexandre Astier makes his fans’ dreams come true.

In 2003, Alexandre Astier caught the eye of M6 thanks to the short film Dies Iræ, for which he was screenwriter, director and actor of the main character, Arthur, King of Brittany.

Its originality and its tone hit the mark with the channel, which ordered a first season of 100 episodes lasting 3 minutes and 30 minutes. Broadcast between 2005 and 2009 under the title Kaamelott, the series achieved great public success.

From then on, Alexandre Astier plans to conclude the story of the series with a cinematographic trilogy. But we will have to wait ten years after the end of the broadcast of Kaamelott for the first film to see the light of day. A wait that was worth it since Kaamelott – First part keeps all its promises.

While the series ended with the exile of King Arthur, the film recounts his return, ten years later, to his kingdom of Logres, now ruled with an iron fist by his enemy Lancelot du Lac.

Adapting his universe to the feature film format while retaining elements likely to satisfy early fans, Alexandre Astier succeeds in his bet: released in 2021, Kaamelott – First part records more than 2.6 million admissions at the box office.

Despite a difficult period for cinemas, affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, the film is the biggest French success of the year 2021, surpassing the American blockbusters Fast & Furious 9 and Black Widow.

Kaamelott – First part by Alexandre Astier with Alexandre Astier, Anne Girouard, Franck Pitiot…

Tonight on M6 at 9:10 p.m.
