Tonight on TV: One of Harrison Ford’s Best Roles! (and it’s not Han Solo, or Indiana Jones)

Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. Tonight: Harrison Ford has the police on his trail.

Thanks to Star Wars and Indiana Jones, two globally successful sagas, Harrison Ford rose to stardom in the 1980s. The following decade, the actor turned to action.

Between two Jack Ryan adventures, he refused the role of Alan Grant in Jurassic Park (which fell to Sam Neill) in order to devote himself to the film The Fugitive, adapted from the eponymous TV series broadcast in the 1960s.

During pre-production, Harrison Ford supported producer Arnold Kopelson, not only in the choice of director Andrew Davis, but also in that of the cast and of Chicago, his native city, as a filming location.

On screen, the actor plays surgeon Richard Kimble, whose peaceful life changes when he finds himself accused of the murder of his wife. Having the police on his heels, he resumes the investigation from scratch in order to establish the truth.

Very invested in his role, Harrison Ford does not hesitate to let his beard grow (which he shaves afterwards to facilitate the metamorphosis of his character during his run), to shoot an interrogation scene without knowing the lines of his partners in advance, or even refusing to treat the injury he suffered in the knee during a scene of flight in the woods to limp and gain credibility.

Released in 1993, The fugitive relaunched the career of Harrison Ford thanks to its immense success at the world box office: the film garnered 368 million dollars in revenue, for a budget of 44 million.

Chase conducted at full speed, also to be seen for the performance of Tommy Lee Jones as a pugnacious cop, which earned him the Oscar for Best Actor in a Supporting Role, The fugitive has a solid viewer rating average of 4/5 on AlloCiné.
