Since he was 21, the age when he discovered the title “Bellbottoms” from Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Edgar Wright dreamed of filming a car chase on this track. In 2003, he directed the music video for “Blue Song” from the electro group Mint Royale. This one features a robbery driver waiting for his accomplices who are robbing a bank, singing and dancing to the music. A clip that he reproduces identically in the opening scene of Baby Driver, released in 2017.
Edgar Wright thus unveils the concept that he has been developing for so many years: punctuating the film, its editing and the gestures of some of its characters by setting them to the songs that the protagonist constantly listens to.
