Tonight on TV: rated 4.3 out of 5 by AlloCiné viewers, this thriller achieves near perfection

Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. Tonight: a psychological thriller that will turn your brain!

Gone Girl is David Fincher’s tenth directorial effort… and his biggest success more than 22 years after his first feature film! With its $127.8 million at the American box office, the film dethroned The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008). This project also marks his reunion with cinematographer Jeff Cronenweth after their collaboration on Fight Club (1999), The Social Network (2010) and Millennium: The Men Who Didn’t Love Women (2011).

On his fifth wedding anniversary, Nick Dunne returns home to find his house ransacked and his wife, Amy, missing. This disappearance quickly becomes the subject of an intense media circus and an oppressive investigation for Nick who suddenly sees all the spotlights turn on him. The portrait of a happy union that he has painted does not seem to match reality and his lies as well as his strange behavior lead the police and public opinion to ask one and the same question: has Nick killed his wife?

Dark, powerful, nightmarish and fascinating, Gone Girl is the successful adaptation of the best-seller Appearances by Gillian Flynn. The latter, who also wrote the screenplay for the film, here realizes her dream of seeing David Finchermaster of the thriller, adapt his masterpiece for the screen.

In addition to its public success, the feature film is also acclaimed by critics who praise its masterful direction, its careful photography and its skillful and manipulative script, in addition to its subtle acting which will allow see Ben Affleck in a new light and discover Rosamund Pike more masterful than ever, in a role that earned her an Oscar nomination for best actress.

In the hands of the master in question, Gone Girl comes to life with suspense and anguish through a montage favoring complex and anxiety-provoking chronological ruptures. Add to this very high quality imaging thanks to 6K shooting with a specialized camera that the filmmaker will be the first to use.

Finally, the oppressive and brilliant soundtrack of the film enhances everything: it must be said that it is signed by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross with whom David Fincher has already collaborated, here too on The Social Network And Millenium: Men who didn’t like women. A winning trio since together they won an Oscar and a Golden Globes (among others) for the music of The Social Network.

Captivating from start to finish, full of pretenses, tensions and contagious paranoia – and bordering on perfection with its rating 4.3 out of 5 by AlloCiné spectators –, Gone Girl will continue to haunt you long after your movie session.
